Lawyer SEO Service in Toronto, Built Around the Files You Want

Someone in Toronto is typing "wrongful dismissal lawyer" or "how to contest a will in Ontario" right now. They will shortlist three or four firms and phone one or two.

Our lawyer SEO service puts Toronto firms on that shortlist. We build practice area pages that answer what people really ask, a Google Business Profile that can compete in the map pack, and marketing copy that stays inside Law Society of Ontario rules. It starts with a free audit of where your firm stands in search today.

The problem in this market

What legal search in Toronto looks like now

Search any practice area plus "Toronto". Ads fill the top of the page, and legal clicks are some of the most expensive Google sells. Below the ads sits the map pack with three firms. Then directories and "top ten" lists. Organic results start after all of that, and a few large firms with years of link building hold most of them. For plain questions an AI Overview often answers before anyone clicks.

A ten-lawyer firm will not win that page with a homepage and one "Practice Areas" list.

The searcher, meanwhile, is stressed, on a phone, and comparing. They skim your bio and your reviews, and they check whether you describe their problem in words they would use. Many firm websites lose the enquiry at that step, well after the ranking was won.

Why this vertical is different

Why law firm SEO does not work like other SEO

People look for a lawyer by problem first and place second. Nobody searches "law firm Toronto" when they have been fired. They search "severance pay Ontario" or "employment lawyer near me". So the structure that ranks is a practice area matrix: one substantial page per practice area, with a page beneath it for each type of matter. Personal injury splits into motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall, and long-term disability denials.

Clients and lawyers use different vocabulary. You write "decision-making responsibility", and they type "child custody". You say "constructive dismissal", and they search "forced to quit my job". A page has to be legally accurate and still carry the client's phrase.

File value varies enormously. A catastrophic injury claim and a Small Claims Court dispute are both "a lead", and they are nothing alike for your firm. Keywords should follow the matters you want more of, which is rarely where search volume peaks.

Google treats legal content as "Your Money or Your Life" material and looks for a named, accountable author. Articles signed "Admin" do poorly here.

Then there is your regulator. Under the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct, marketing must be demonstrably true, accurate and verifiable. The word "specialist" is reserved for lawyers certified under the Certified Specialist Program, and awards or rankings you mention have to be bona fide. When an agency writes "Toronto's top divorce lawyer" on your homepage, the complaint lands on your desk.

The engagement

What our SEO for lawyers includes

Scope is set after the audit. For most firms the work falls into five parts.

Practice area and matter pages

We map your practice areas against real search demand in Toronto and the GTA, then plan the page hierarchy: practice area, matter type and, where it helps, location. Each page explains the process, realistic timelines and how fees work, in the client's language. One page per search intent, so your own pages never compete.

Lawyer bios that work as evidence

Most lawyer bios are a paragraph and a headshot. We rebuild them with year of call, bar admissions, reported decisions, publications, speaking and languages spoken, and add Person and Attorney schema, so Google and prospective clients can verify who is behind the advice.

Content people read before they call

Process explainers and answers to the questions your intake team hears every week. Every draft goes to the responsible lawyer for review before it is published, and it carries that lawyer's name. We structure this content for AI answers as well, through our AI search optimisation work, because more legal questions now start in ChatGPT or an AI Overview.

Technical health and the intake path

A technical SEO audit covers crawling, indexing, page speed on mobile and LegalService schema. Then we fix what happens after the click: tap-to-call, a short consultation form, and tracking tagged by practice area, so you can see which pages produce enquiries.

Authority and digital PR

We earn links from legal publications, bar and community associations, and media commentary by your lawyers on cases and legislation in the news. We do not buy links or use private blog networks, which put a regulated professional's domain at risk.

If you need files sooner than organic search can deliver them, our Google Ads management runs alongside on the same keyword research.

Local visibility layer

Local visibility: map pack, legal directories and reviews

For most Toronto practices the map pack produces more calls than the listings below it. Three things decide who appears there.

The first is your Google Business Profile. The primary category should match your main practice area, such as "Family law attorney" or "Personal injury attorney", and not the generic "Law firm". Lawyers can hold practitioner listings beside the firm listing, useful when partners practise in different areas. Google expects a staffed office, so a virtual address risks suspension. We handle this through our Google Business Profile management.

The second is consistency across the places that matter in law. Your name, address and phone number should match the Law Society's Lawyer and Paralegal Directory exactly, then Lexpert, Canadian Lawyer listings, Avvo and the main data aggregators. The Law Society Referral Service is worth joining too, because legal directories send real enquiries.

The third is reviews. Ask every client the same way when a file closes, with no incentive and no filtering. When you reply, do it without confirming that the reviewer was a client, because confidentiality still applies. Our local SEO service covers the wider GTA, from North York to Mississauga.

Measured in qualified consultations

What success looks like for a law firm

Rankings are an early signal. What we report on sits closer to your books.

The main number is qualified consultation requests, split by practice area. Twenty enquiries about matters you do not take are worth less than three about matters you do. Calls and forms are tracked and tagged by matter type, and if your intake team marks which enquiries became retainers, we can show signed files by channel and by page.

Beneath that we watch map pack visibility for your priority practice areas, organic clicks to practice area and bio pages, and how often AI answers cite your firm.

On timing, Google Business Profile and local results usually move within the first three to four months. Competitive practice area terms take six to twelve months, and personal injury often takes longer. Nobody can promise positions, and a regulated professional should be wary of any agency that does.

From audit to roadmap

How we work

Every engagement starts with a free audit, so you see the problems before you spend anything. If we go ahead, the first month is discovery: a full crawl, a review of Search Console and analytics, a look at who holds the rankings you want, and conversations with whoever runs your site.

From that comes a prioritised roadmap. Each item is ranked by expected impact against effort, and you approve it before work begins. Then we execute in monthly cycles: technical fixes first because everything else depends on them, then page and content work, then authority. Where a change needs your developers, we write the specification and check the result.

Reporting is monthly and in plain language. You get a short written summary of what changed, what it did and what comes next, backed by a live dashboard built on Search Console and Google Analytics 4 data. There is no lock-in pressure. We recommend a minimum runway so the work has time to pay off, and we keep the terms simple.

Senior-led, and used to regulated work

Why SEO24

SEO24 is a Toronto agency, founded in 2023, with an office at 5255 Yonge Street. The team brings more than fifteen years of combined experience across technical SEO, content and WordPress development.

Work is senior-led. The person who plans your strategy is the person doing it, and the one you talk to when you have a question.

We already write for a regulated profession. Our dental client answers to a college with its own advertising rules, and the Toothopia case study shows how we moved that practice to a new brand without losing its search visibility. Legal work gets the same habits: no superlatives, no invented numbers, nothing published without the responsible lawyer's approval.

We also work in English, Persian, German and Arabic, which matters in a city where many people look for a lawyer in their first language. Law is one of several fields we work in, alongside the rest of our SEO and digital marketing services.

Law firm SEO questions Toronto lawyers ask us

Short answers to what lawyers ask before they hire a legal SEO agency.

How much does SEO for lawyers cost in Toronto?

It depends on how many practice areas you want to grow and how competitive they are. We quote a fixed monthly fee after the free audit, never a fee per lead or per retainer, which also keeps the arrangement well away from referral fee rules. See our SEO pricing for starting points.

How long does law firm SEO take to show results?

Google Business Profile and map pack visibility usually improve within three to four months. Organic rankings for competitive practice area terms generally take six to twelve months, and personal injury can take longer. Narrower matter pages and neighbourhood searches tend to move first, so we start there.

Is SEO worth it for a sole practitioner or small firm?

Often, yes, as long as the plan is narrow. A small firm will not outrank national personal injury brands on head terms, and it does not need to. It can own specific matters in a specific area, such as separation agreements in North York. One or two good files a month usually cover the cost.

Should a law firm invest in SEO or Google Ads?

Usually both, in sequence. Ads produce enquiries within days, and legal clicks are expensive, so the cost never falls. SEO takes months and keeps producing once it works. Many firms run ads on their most valuable practice area while organic visibility builds, then reduce spend on the terms they now rank for.

Will our marketing copy follow Law Society of Ontario rules?

We write with the Rules of Professional Conduct open. That means no ‘specialist’ or ‘expert’ wording unless you hold the certification, no comparative claims, no predictions about outcomes, and care with awards and testimonials. Every page goes to you for approval before it is published. Responsibility for compliance stays with you, so we keep that review easy.

Can you help our firm get more Google reviews?

Yes. We set up a simple, consistent request that goes to every client when a file closes, with a direct link and no incentive. We do not filter unhappy clients out, since Google prohibits review gating. We also draft replies that thank the reviewer without confirming any detail of the retainer.

Your next step

Find out what is holding your firm back

Send us your firm's website and we will audit it for free: crawl and indexing problems, practice area gaps against the firms that outrank you, the state of your Google Business Profile, and the first fixes we would make. Once we receive your request, a senior strategist reviews the site and sends you a written analysis, not an automated PDF. There is no obligation and no sales sequence afterwards. If the findings are useful, we can talk about next steps.
